BioSci Library Instant Messaging FAQs
Are we Online Right Now?
1. When is Instant Message Reference Available?
Instant Message (IM) Reference is available anytime that the IM IDs are online. This is generally Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 4:30 PM. If no one is at the desk to answer the IM there may be an away message up. Feel free to leave a message if the IM is set to 'away', but please leave an e-mail address or other method of contact so that we can get back to you if you've signed off later.
2. How does IM Work?
Simply send a message to any of the screen names: (AIM: BioSciLibrary, Y!IM: BioSciLibrary, MSN: BioSciLibrary@hotmail.com). You may check the indicators above to see which screen names are currently online, or you can add them to your Buddy List/Contact List.
3. What kinds of questions can I ask?
You can ask simple factual questions (What is the scientific name for rabbits?), Location/Directional Questions (Where is "The Journal of Marine Biology" located? Where is the Engineering Library now Located?), Questions about our hours (How late are you open tonight?), and many other types of questions. If your questions is very involved (something like how to best research a topic) we might ask you to stop by the library for some hands on help since that's often easier than explaining it online. But we'll do our best to answer your questions.
4. I don't have IM software, how do I get it?
You can download IM software from each service provider's website.
AOL Instant Messenger (AIM): Download Page
Yahoo Instant Messenger (Y!IM): Download Page

Trillian (used for AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ and IRC): Info Page
